Congratulations to Juli Hawn on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for March 10th. Juli Hawn is an exceptional young woman with a remarkable creative vision. She dedicates herself to cheerleading--a pursuit that comes with significant expenses. To help offset these costs, she channels her talent for baking through her in-home bakery. However, Juli doesn’t just sell her cookies—she often gives them as thoughtful gifts and shares them with people going through difficult times. Her generosity and extraordinary heart, paired with her incredible talent, truly set her apart. I’m fortunate to have Juli in my Accelerated English II class and have no doubt she will achieve a lot in this world. I can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes.

Congratulations to Sabrina Ferreira on being named one of East High's Students to the Week for March 10th. Sabrina is a pristine example of the wonderful students we have at Fort Zumwalt East. Despite being a Senior, this is Sabrina's first year at FZE. She spent the last few years of high school in a homeschool setting and decided to come to Fort Zumwalt East for her final year of high school. Sabrina has thrived in her first year as a lion. Sabrina shows up to school every week with a smile on her face ready to tackle the days activities. What really made Sabrina stand out this year was how often she would challenge herself to do better. The best example of this was in January after the school found out finals would not harm anyone's grades. Upon finding out that Sabrina earned her A for the semester, she still signed up for the final exam to prepare herself for harder tests that await her in the future. With her forward thinking skills, charitable personality, and sense of ownership, Sabrina is a shining example of the brightness our future holds.

Congratulations to Lori Becker on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for March 10th. Lori is from Budapest! He's our foreign exchange student and I have him in Psych. He's a sweet, hardworking kid living away from home for 9 months. His humor and smile are so fun. He's eager to try out our traditions and willing to talk about his. I am so glad he's here at East enriching our community with his kindness.

After the early release on March 5th, EHS teachers attended a professional development session on AI. They started with a "Getting to Know You" activity, where teachers shared a meaningful photo from their phones. Then, they learned about AI strategies, before splitting into department groups to explore more AI techniques specific to their subjects.

Capping off Career Technical Education month and Public Schools Week, we want to recognize the 19 high school students who are the first to participate in the St. Charles County Apprenticeship Accelerator. This unique collaboration between the county’s five public school districts, local manufacturers and the USDOL creates apprenticeship opportunities for students as young as 16 interested in manufacturing careers. They complete classwork at school that corresponds with the hands-on learning they do in their 2,000 apprenticeship hours at work. Upon completion, they will earn 45 credit hours from St. Charles Community College and a nationally recognized USDOL apprentice certification. Together, these 19 students will earn about $700,000 working their apprenticeship hours and produce more than $3 million in manufactured goods. It’s one more way our schools and communities come together to Educate, Empower and Equip Students to Excel in life and in work. #PSW25 #FZEqupToExcel

Congratulations to Olivia Walker on being named one of the Students of the Week for Feb. 10th. Olivia is a hard working, kind, funny girl who checks in on me every day. I recently shared with my students that this season is hard for me (since my father died on Christmas day). Olivia has asked me how I'm doing every day since. I think she is really empathetic and just the kind of kid we hope will lead us into the future. #LionPride

Congratulations to the 2025 East Elite!

Jacob Phillips was named one of the Students of the Week for Feb. 10th by one of our faculty members. Jacob is a kind, hardworking, open person that brings a quiet goodness to every project and group he's part of. I know kids like him don't always get the recognition they deserve, so here goes. Jacob is an essential kind of student. He's the kid that smiles and asks you about your day. He's the kids that really tries hard even when the subject isn't easy for him. I'm so glad to have him in class. Congratulations Jacob!
